There may be some topics I know very little about, but life with 3 boys might be a specialty of mine! These three brothers reminded me so much of my own, it was kinda crazy. They each were so fun, so photogenic, and brought their own little personalities out in the hour and a half we spent together.
Since this is a somewhat rare family session post, I thought it would be a good time to answer a question I’ve been asked a lot: Am I still photographing families?
The answer is yes and no. If you have followed my work over the last couple years, you know I have transitioned my business into one specializing in HS senior portrait work rather than children and families. There are several reasons behind this, but a huge one is that I was having some bad knee problems. Yes, it makes me feel geriatric even writing that, but it is true. While photographing little people or families, I like to be on their level a lot. This requires lots of bending of knees, crouching, squatting, leaning in various odd positions… all to get the shot. You might think, “Can’t you just do your job in some other way?” Nope, I tried. For me, sessions were physically up-down-up-down for an hour or two at a time. I had a knee that was killing me. It was hurting just to walk up and down stairs, I would get sharp stabs of pain at random times, and sometimes it felt like my knee was going to buckle. I knew the photo shoots were aggravating it, and something had to change. I got myself back in the gym on a regular basis, hoping that strengthening the muscles supporting my knee might help. That did help A LOT. However, I still cannot bend my knee more than 90 degrees without paying for it later.
So back to the original question: Am I still photographing families? Yes, I am photographing a small group of past, loyal clients. No, I am not taking any new family session clients at this time. Could this change down the road? Yep, sure could, but this is where I’m at for now.
Enough about me! Check out these beautiful boys with their mom and dad!
