I think I have two sides. On one side, I am very type A, perfectionistic and want to control things. This is the side that probably shows most in my client work. Yet, when it comes to my own kids, it’s a battle between the “trying to get the perfect shot” and just documenting the moment. Life with 3 boys is rarely quiet…. rarely calm…. and rarely STILL. Sometimes I get so tied up with work, that it’s tough for me to even break my “big girl camera” out to capture my own boys. Sadly, it feels like work a lot of times, and I just would rather bust out the iphone b/c it’s small enough to shove in my pocket and my kids don’t protest it.
A couple weeks ago they were all playing outside on this gorgeous evening in the backyard. I ran inside to grab my DSLR and whatever lens was on at the time (I think it was my 50mm 1.4) and just go with the moment. Clothes didn’t coordinate. Hair wasn’t fixed…. probably wasn’t even brushed. And it was OK.
And they do what they do when they see my big camera…. act goofy, do bunny ears, climb on each other, laugh, and be brothers.
So here are a few very real life shots from my backyard of the boys…. getting bigger and more grown up all the time…. I love the ages and stages they’re at right now & am going to do a better job of merging “work” and “everyday” over the summer when my day-to-day life is much more relaxed. I can’t wait. 🙂
Here are my muses at 8, 5 and 2.
