Back wayyyyy up to April of this year. My search for my 2015 Senior Model Team was just beginning. I asked for interested girls to fill out an application, and then asked them to come to in-person 1:1 interviews. I was really overwhelmed and surprised by all of the interest – which is an awesome problem to have. Especially when you are running a new program for the very first time! The decision-making process was tough for me, just because once I sat down with each of these amazing girls, I knew I had to have them on my team! Once we had the selection process out of the way, it was time for some fun!
In May, when we had our first get together at my home studio. Since we have girls from 4 different high schools, we played some fun get-to-know-you games, ate junk food, and I revealed the themes for Day 1 and Day 2 of our model shoot. I had been working so hard on these themes, trying to come up with unique ideas that I had not ever seen before…. something totally new, exciting, and fun. It was important to me that 1) the girls felt pretty in whatever clothes they wore, and 2) that we had FUN with our theme.
The girls had all summer to get their looks together, while I coordinated with our hair & makeup team – headed by Brittany Jones (who is really, really amazing at her job, by the way), and secured our locations. Each girl’s look was decided on ahead of time, to make sure we had the perfect mix between all of the models.
One of my faves from our first shooting spot. A little crazy group jump to get us started off right:
Our theme for Day 1 was dubbed “Luxe Lumberjack”. I was thinking flannel-plaid-lumberjane-with-a-touch-of-glam. And I LOVED what my girls came up with! Not only did they pull some awesome stuff together from their own closet’s, they shopped, borrowed, SEWED – and while they adhered to the theme, I really felt like their own personal style still shone through. And that is pretty incredible, really.
For our location, I was able to secure something awesome…. a 2000 acre private ranch with all kinds of gorgeous variety, texture, and an old barn. I think we went through about 4 million gates on that piece of property, so my gate-manipulating skills are pretty advanced now.
The girls ventured out into this field of pretty weeds and BOOM. The winds started, the skies turned an ominous shade of grey, and…..
When the wind subsided for like 2 seconds, we managed THIS::::
I had sooooo many plans and visions for what I wanted to do with this fake snow, but with the totally crazy weather, we kinda had to improvise!
Skies getting a little darker here…..
Skies letting us know we just had minutes to spare….. we decided to hurry up and just have a big snow fight in this pasture!
And this is right before Mother Nature LET US HAVE IT. I mean, check out those clouds?!???! Pure craziness. I think you can even see the wall of rain coming if you look towards the right hand side of this photo:
This turned out to be one of my faves. I think it’s safe to say that we will always remember this day….. and all of the elements that were stacked against us getting ANYTHING usable out of this shoot, photographically-speaking – (ok, well maybe that was just what was running thru my head!). Honestly, I was so glad the girls just had fun with it and no one was majorly scared of the storm!
Before we left & the rain started pouring down, I jumped in one quick shot with the girls…. they keep me young. 😉
And a few from behind the scenes at my home studio! Brittany and her team were so awesome and did an amazing job. I am so thankful for their skills!
Getting a few last minute touches here…..
Overall, this day and the whole experience was so fun & I just loved getting to see my vision come to life. I loved giving these senior girls an experience they will remember for a lifetime & one that will likely be once-in-a-lifetime! Truly a highlight of the senior year!
