I’ll be real honest… this shoot was somewhat of a challenge. But not for any of the reasons you might think.
Haley has such an artistic look about her, plus an amazing fashion sense, and I was constantly having to reign myself in with this shoot, thinking “These are senior portraits!” – and not taking this totally in a fashion-editorial-model direction. I tried to capture both what I felt reflected her style and personality, but without going too over the top. Let’s be honest… there is a part of senior portraiture that is traditional…. I mean, the act of even having senior portraits made can be chalked up to tradition and checks the box on the “must do” list for your senior year.
From an artist’s point of view, I felt like I could go a little more outside the box, and let my mindset be more creatively free, because that DID work with my subject in this case. But from my “I am a mom” point of view, I tried to keep some of the images a little more symmetrical and … I don’t know what the word is…. expected?
No matter my take on things, Haley is simply stunning in ANY shot – more traditional or more artistic. I love her confidence, her style, and I am pretty much in awe of how awesome she is with hair and makeup! She did her own!
Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your senior year! Loved it!
